Ingress Protection: Dust Protected and Dust Tight (IP5X & IP6X)
Ingress protection testing tests the level of protection an enclosure provides against intrusions. Two such sets of ingress protection tests involve exposing the equipment under test (EUT), to dust. These tests are numbered IP5X and IP6X. The first digit, in the case of dust protected, would always be a 5, and in the case of dust tight, would always be a 6. The first digit, represented by the “X”, ranges from 0 to 9 and specifies the protection from liquid.
