Aero Nav Laboratories, Inc.
Aero Nav Laboratories is a full service environmental simulation lab which has served the military and industrial communities since 1974. Aero Nav Labs has developed a strong foundation of testing experience and capability and performs a wide variety of tests such as shock, vibration, highly accelerated stress, screening (HASS), highly accelerated life tests (HALT), salt spray, explosion, fire resistance, and more. The tests are conducted in accordance with numerous military, commercial, automotive, transportation, marine, aerospace and medical specifications. The laboratory offers additional services to its customers such as functional and developmental testing as well as engineering technical support. The technical support includes analyses, test program design and review of tests results. Aero Nav Labs is also capable of providing contract work services such as contract manufacturing (small quantities), prototype manufacturing, component assembly, field inspection, test witnessing and verification.

Fungus Test
The fungus test assesses the extent to which material will support fungal growth and how any fungal growth may affect performance. The fungus test also identifies how rapidly fungus will grow on the material, and how fungus affects the material, its mission, and its safety for use following the growth of fungus on the material.

Dielectric Withstanding Voltage Test
The dielectric withstanding voltage test (also called high-potential, over-potential voltage-breakdown, or dielectric-strength test) consists of the application of a voltage significantly higher than rated voltage for a specific time, between mutually insulated portions of a component part or between insulated portions and ground. This is used to prove that the component part can operate safely at its rated voltage and withstand momentary over-potentials due to switching, surges, and other similar phenomena.

Highly Accelerated Life (HALT) Test
HALT consists of high and low temperature and 3 axis vibration testing performed either individually or in combination.Highly accelerated life testing is performed to identify design weaknesses and problems prior to production. HALT subjects equipment to overstress conditions at a level which does affect life, but offers an advantage by reducing the design and development phases of a program.

Noise Test
Noise testing is conducted to determine if materials can withstand external noises generated by various sources. It also includes air-borne and structure-borne noise measurements.

Acceleration Testing
The acceleration test is performed on a centrifuge to assure that material can structurally withstand the steady state inertia loads that are induced by platform acceleration, deceleration, and maneuver in the service environment, and can function without degradation during and following exposure to these forces. Acceleration tests are also used to assure that material does not become hazardous after exposure to crash loads. The acceleration test method is applicable to material that is installed in mobile platforms such as aircraft, helicopters, aerospace vehicles, air-carried stores, ground-launched missiles, trains, ships, automotive vehicles, etc.

Electric Power System Characteristics Test
This test is also known as the power supply line voltage and frequency variations test. A few of the measured characteristics are: voltage and frequency modulation, voltage spike, and voltage transient recovery.

Strain Gauge Test
This test measures the structural stresses induced in equipment when subjected to various environmental and operational loads. Strain gages, which are resistive devices whose outputs are proportional to the amount that they are deformed under strain, are placed at selected locations to yield stress levels which may then be compared to design allowable limits.

Magnetic Effects Test
This test determines if an object can operate normally in strong externally generated magnetic environments. The magnetic effect test helps to assist in determining the proper location of the equipment in the installation.

Vibration Test
Vibration testing determines the dynamic effects on component part of vibration within the frequency ranges and magnitudes that may be encountered during field service. Vibration, for example, causes loosening of parts or relative motion between parts in the specimen, producing objectionable operating characteristics, noise, wear, and physical distortion, and often results in fatigue and failure of mechanical parts.

Electrostatic Discharge Test
The electrostatic discharge test is designed to determine the ability of equipment to perform its intended function without permanent degradation of performance as a result of an air discharged electrostatic pulse. Electrostatic discharge is the result of an unbalanced electrical charge. Typically, it is created by insulator surfaces rubbing together or pulling apart. A transfer of electrostatic charge between bodies (materials, components, etc.) at different electrostatic potentials is caused by direct contact.

Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) Test
HASS consists of high and low temperature and 3 axis vibration testing performed either individually or in combination.Highly accelerated stress screening is a technique for identifying process flaws in equipment during production. HASS subjects equipment to overstress conditions but at a level which does not affect design life. For assistance in designing a HASS test program contact the laboratory.
