A cost-effective FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) interrogation system that includes a tunable laser diode, 6 photodiodes, and several fiber-optic couplers has been developed with very simple coniguration. Especially, it is not necessary to compensate the accurate wavelength because the wavelength sweeping is precisely performed in terms of the response time of which external cavity material is 5 msec. Moreover, time-varying temperature trends as well as spectra of FBGs can be observed through the front display.

The bi-directional feature of this module is ideal for wide range of applications. In combination with an optionally built-in circulator or C/L-band WDM coupler, this module can be applied to the WDM-PON test. Our Distributed Acoustic Sensor(DAS) with excellent pattern recognition software can detect and locate the distributed thousanfs of acoustic events. Whenever any vibration or sound around its sensing fiber is detected, our DAS system will process the measured data in real-time and its pattern recognition software will recognize the types of the events, such as digging, pipeline leakage, fence breach, vehicle moving person walking. The EDFA slot module of FOTS system with built-in power booster EDFA module offers a special function that is able to change the optical signal amplification feature variously, which is followed by user’s driving embedded pump LD freely. The output power of eash pump LD can be controlled separately by the program that is set up by user. When an optimum optical signal amplification particularity is needed, it is made up so that it can be materialized by choosing the Default mode provided along with User mode. More stable application of EDFA is possible through the monitoring of the factors such as in/out signal power, gain, alarm status and pump LD enabled by the application of FPGA processor which makes high speed driving possible. It is also set up that user’s present-time monitoring and control through LCD monitor of system main frame or GUI display for remote control can be possible. Through optimization of amplifier gain, noise figure, and saturated output power, this EDFA module will expand test capabilities in systems, components or sub-assembly manufacturing.

The module has a built in LD socket, in which LD of 14 pin butterfly type is installed, which makes it possible for the user to change the LD he or she wants to drive when needed. It is leaded to get rid of the inefficiency of expense, at which various types of expensive united source module needed are purchased. By operating monitoring PD and high-performance processor that are installed inside the module, the output power and temperature of LD can be driven accurately and stably. The laser diodes can be modulated internally in square, sinusoidal, and triangular waves and its output power and temperature can also be maintained the level set by the user. In order to realize the various functions, the efficient and multi-functioned control programs with high speed processor, LCD monitor or GUI for remote control are available.
