ColorPAL Color Sensor

The ColorPAL is a miniature color and light sensor which, through its RGB LED, doubles as a color generator. For sensing color, the ColorPAL uses its LED to illuminate a sample, one color component at a time, along with a broad-spectrum light-to-voltage converter to measure the light reflected back. The amount of light reflected from the sample under illumination from each red, green, and blue LED can be used to determine the sample’s color. The ColorPAL works with non-fluorescent reflective surfaces, preferably those in contact with its light shroud.

The Bosch Sensortec BME680 Integrated Environmental Unit combines a gas sensor with air pressure, humidity, and ambient air temperature sensing functions within a single package for high performance air quality measurement. Parallax Inc. places the BME680 on a compact PCB with a 6-pin male header. This capable sensor does not have to be difficult to use. The BME680 is supported by BlocklyProp visual programming as well as C libraries for the Propeller multicore microcontroller. Code for other controllers is available from the Bosch Github repository.

The MEMSIC 2125 is a low cost, dual-axis thermal accelerometer capable of measuring tilt, acceleration, rotation, and vibration with a range of ±3 g. For integration into existing applications, the MEMSIC 2125 is electrically compatible with other popular accelerometers. MEMSIC provides the 2125 in a surface-mount format. The Altimeter Module MS5607 is a high resolution (20 cm) electronic altimeter sensor that gives highly accurate altitude, pressure, and temperature readings. The module includes a high-linearity barometric pressure sensor and a high-resolution temperature output, allowing implementation of an altimeter/thermometer without any additional sensors. Different operation modes allow the user to optimize for conversion speed or current consumption. The module is designed for use with a large variety of microcontrollers with different voltage requirements. This module is well-suited for high-altitude ballooning and has been used with great success in that role.

The UV Light Sensor measures ambient ultraviolet intensity in the 200 to 370 nanometer range, within the solar ultraviolet UVA, UVB, and UVC light spectrum. The sensor has a built-in amplifier with adjustable levels. The UV Light Sensor may be used outdoors in a variety of applications including datalogging and closed-loop control, such as for activating watering or greenhouse vents.

5-Position Switch

The 5-Position Switch is a normally open contact switch. It has a nice snappy feel, and returns to the center/un-pressed position immediately when it is released. By monitoring the input state of five pins, it’s easy for any Parallax microcontroller to detect whether the switch is in the up, down, left, right, or pressed position. It is possible for more than one position to make contact at a time, such as pressed+right, left+down, or pressed+right+down, for a total of 18 output states.
